DURHAM, N.C. - Please join Diane Nordstrom of the University of Wisconsin Athletic Communications office for live coverage of the volleyball team's season-opening match vs. Charleston Southern at the Duke Invitational with the Game Day blog. The match begins at 4 p.m. CT from Cameron Indoor Stadium on the Duke University campus.

The blog is interactive, so be sure to chime in with comments and questions and vote in the polls. The live blog will start at 3:30 p.m. (CT).

The Badgers arrived in Durham late last night - after a couple of delays out of Madison and out of Cleveland. The team got up for breakfast and then practice at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

The arena seats only a little over 9,300 - which is surprising considering the popularity of Duke basketball!

You'll notice lots of banners hanging from the rafters though - almost all of the them for the men's basketball team! All of the courtside seating here is for students so the bleachers are really short since they stand for most games.

The competition at the Duke Invitational gets progressively harder for the Badgers. Wisconsin starts out tonight vs. Charleston Southern, a team that went 13-20 last season. The Lady Buccaneers return two starters and nine letterwinners.

Tomorrow at 11 a.m. CT is Furman (17-12 in 2010) followed by Duke (27-7) Saturday night at 6 p.m. CT. The Blue Devils were the ACC champions last season and also advanced to the elite eight of the NCAA tournament.

CSU (aka Charleston Southern) is led by sophomore Kayla Klinger, a 5-9 outside hitter from Cary, Ill., who averaged 1.82 kills and 2.02 digs per set last season. Junior Amy Nokes, a 6-0 setter from Chicago, averaged 8.61 assists and 1.08 kills per set last season.

The Badgers definitely have a height advantage over the Lady Bucs - CSU has two players at 6-0 but no taller. Wisconsin has 12 players at 6-0 or taller, including 6-6 Elle Ohlander and 6-5 Ellen Chapman.

I'm guessing tonight's starting lineup is going to be Alexis Mitchell and Kristy Bourquin at middle, Crystal Graff and Ellen Chapman on the left, Janelle Gabrielsen and Courtney Thomas splitting at setter/right-side hitter and Annemarie Hickey at libero. That's one senior, two juniors, one sophomore and three freshmen!

My official wrapup - it wasn't pretty but the team has a lot more options this season. Lots of mistakes could have been avoided and I think things will improve a lot as we go through the weekend. Things were not as smooth as I've seen in practice but I think that comes with having another opponent on the other side of the court.
