Knight's turn to streak

Much of the Badgers' success this season can be attributed to the depth of their offense and their consistency. Both of these qualities are exhibited in the lengthy point streaks the Badgers have put together this season.

Senior Meghan Duggan and sophomore Brianna Decker both recorded program-record point streaks earlier this season, and now it is junior Hilary Knight's turn.

Knight is currently riding a 16-game point streak, posting 36 points from Dec. 10 to Feb. 13. Her 16-game run is tied for the fifth-longest individual point streak in UW women's hockey history.

Meanwhile, Duggan's 25-game streak from Oct. 22 to Feb. 4 set the bar as the longest individual point streak in program history, and Decker's 20-game streak from Nov. 6 to Feb. 4 tied the second-longest streak all-time.

All three of these point streaks have overlapped, making their significance even greater.

Duggan averaged 2.28 points per game, posting 24 goals and 33 assists for 57 points during her streak. Decker averaged 1.90 points per game with 38 points on 17 goals and 21 assists during her 20-game stretch. Knight averages 2.25 points per game over the last 16 games.

Together, the trio of Decker, Duggan and Knight has combined for 187 points in 32 games this season.

They all have at least one point in 29 of 32 games this season, and the trio has combined for five or more points in 23 games, including a 13-point output in UW's 7-4 win over Northeastern (Jan. 1). Together, they average 5.84 points per game.

Individually, Decker, Duggan and Knight have been held without points in three games. There has only been one game this season where none of them has recorded a point - a 2-0 win over Bemidji State (Oct. 10).

The trio's success is reflected in the team's current streak as well. UW's two wins over North Dakota last weekend extended Wisconsin's unbeaten streak to 18 games at 16-0-2. The current streak is the program's longest since opening the 2008-09 season with a 20-game unbeaten streak (18-0-2).

Decker, Duggan, Knight and the rest of the top-ranked Badgers (28-2-2, 22-2-2-2 WCHA) travel to Mankato, Minn., for their final regular season series this weekend. Wisconsin faces off against Minnesota State (8-21-3, 7-18-1-0 WCHA) Friday at 7 p.m. and concludes the series Saturday at 3 p.m.
