Please join Tam Flarup of the Wisconsin Athletic Communications office courtside at the Kohl Center as she chronicles the Badger women's basketball team (15-12 overall, 10-5 Big Ten) in its home finale against Indiana University (9-18, 3-12) tonight live in the Gameday Blog. The Badgers were able to fend off the pesky Hoosiers 65-57 in the seniors final game at the Kohl Center.

I am Tam Flarup and have served as your blog host this season for all home events. I am the former athletic communications contact for women's basketball and have thoroughly enjoyed watching this team improve and have success this year. In fact, this is the last home game. Wow, has the season flown by.

Just a few Badgers are on the floor right now for warmup. Cassie Rochel, Emily Neal, Alyssa Karel and Taylor Wurtz are letting it fly from long range. A birthday party group of 12 girls just yelled down to the floor, "We love you Alyssa Karel." and she replied, "Love you guys too."

There is still a lot at stake with two games remaining in the regular season. The Badgers are tied third place in the Big Ten standings despite losing by two to Michigan Saturday. Michigan State clinched at least a share of the 2011 Big Ten title at 12-2. Penn State is second at 10-4 while Wisconsin and Michigan are tied for third at 9-5. Iowa and Ohio State are a game behind in fifth at 8-6. UW and Indiana is the only game this evening.

Wednesday February 23, 2011 5:40
5:42

Two wins guarantees Wisconsin a top-five finish in the regular season and a first-round bye in the Big Ten Tournament. One win could drop the Badgers into a tie with Iowa and Ohio State for the fifth position in the standings and leave the tournament seeding to the first tie breaker, which is head-to-head competition.  UW lost 59-44 at Iowa Feb. 16 in its only meeting. UW faces Ohio State in its only meeting of the year Feb. 27.

Wednesday February 23, 2011 5:42
5:43
Tonight the Badgers have to take care of business at home. Indiana leads the all-time series with Wisconsin 43-19 though the Badgers have won the last three meetings. UW downed the Hoosiers 75-49 in Bloomington, Ind., on Feb. 6 for Coach Lisa Stone's 500th career win. The Badgers had four players score in double figures in the win.

Wisconsin leads 14-13 in Madison and the Badgers have won three of the last four meetings at home.

Wednesday February 23, 2011 5:43
5:45
Here comes Jade Davis onto the floor for warmup. She had a career game against Michigan hitting four 3-ptrs and and scoring a career best 14 points. With the injury to starting forward Tara Steinbauer, everyone needs to step up and they did vs. Michigan but just fell short.
Wednesday February 23, 2011 5:45
5:47
Tara Steinbauer tore her ACL just two minutes into the Iowa game Feb. 16. She had started 111 concecutive games and was the third leading scorer at 10 points per game. So she will be sorely missed. In her absence Saturday, Coach Lisa Stone started a four-guard lineup alongside forward/center Lin Zastrow. She will probably do the same thing against the shorter faster Hoosiers tonight.
Wednesday February 23, 2011 5:47
5:49
Zastrow, a 6-4 senior, is counting down to 1,000 career points and 600 career rebounds. The 6-foot-4 post needs 30 points for 1,000 and 21 rebounds for 600 in her career.

As a team, Wisconsin is on track to break Big Ten season records for most 3-point field goals made per game and best free throw percentage.

The Badgers are making 6.2 treys per game, which would break the conference-season mark of 6.0 per game set in 2001-02. Wisconsin has made 87 3-point field goals with the season record being 96 in 2001-02.

UW is also shooting 76.1 percent for the free throw line, which would break the UW Big Ten season record of 75.2 percent set in 2006-07.

Wednesday February 23, 2011 5:51
5:55

The Badgers turned the ball over only eight times vs. Michigan last Saturday, tying for the second-lowest single-game total of the season. Eight turnovers ties for eighth on the UW single-game record list for fewest turnovers.

Wisconsin is averaging just 11.9 turnovers per game in Big Ten play, which ranks second in the league. The UW Big Ten-season record for fewest turnovers per game is 14.83 set in 2008-09.

The Badgers average 14.3 turnovers per game on the season, which would also be a season record. The current mark is 15.18 per game, set in 2008-09.

The Hoosiers are led by senior Jori Davis. The 5-9 guard averages 19.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. Davis has 1,520 point sin her career, which ranks her ninth on the IU career list.
Wednesday February 23, 2011 6:00
6:02
Davis is the Big Ten's top scorer in conference-only games, averaging 20.8. In her last three games, Davis is averaging 26 points per game while shooting 50 percent from the field, including 42.9 percent from 3-point range.
Wednesday February 23, 2011 6:02
6:05
Senior Hope Elam, a 6-1 forward, adds 10.8 points per game for the Hoosiers. Senior Whitney Lindsay, a 5-7 guard, chips in 9.9 points per game. Lindsay dishes off a team-best 96 assists while Davis hands off 93 dimes.
Wednesday February 23, 2011 6:05
6:08
The Hoosiers are one of the top teams in the Big Ten, ranking third in the league with 9.7 steals per game. They also have an assist-to-turnover ratio of +0.38.

Both teams are on the court, doing warm-ups. We have about 40 minutes until the National Anthem. Coach Oties Epps is talking to Indiana assistant coach Amaka Agugua. Just came from a pre-game event where many of the student organizations on campus are here for pizza and sodas, and will get admission to the game. I wanted to make a few observations about the season from my home perch here. Although I don't travel with the team, I saw most of their games either on the Big Ten Network, or on the BNT.com streams. It is sad that injury reared its ugly head so often, and there was a common theme. Injuries happened to our senior leaders and starting unit, and they were all knees.
Wednesday February 23, 2011 6:33
6:35
It started in the exhibition season with Alyssa Karel missing the second exhibition and three games. Then Lin Zastrow missed three games with a knee injury and another with a head injury. That string of games was over the non-conference and the start of the Big Ten season, and those two injuries were a big reason for the seven-game losing stream Nov. 18-Dec. 5.
Wednesday February 23, 2011 6:35
6:37
About the time the whole team was back together and on a roll towards challenging for the conference crown, Steinbauer gets hurt at Iowa. Well, this team has face adversity before, and I believe they have the character to do it again. The other senior who was hurt was Emily Neal (broken nose), and she had her first start last Saturday and hit the first shot of the game, a 3-ball. Next one in!

There have  been a lot of exciting and close contests here in the Kohl Center. UW took then No. 5 Duke to the wire before losing 59-51. Duke would go on to become No. 1 in the nation and have a 21 game win streak before their first loss.
Wednesday February 23, 2011 6:39

The Kansas game as part of the Big Ten/Big 12 celebration was an overtime loss the Badgers wish they had back. It was an incredibly high scoring affair with UW on the losing end 93-86.
Wednesday February 23, 2011 6:41
6:43
It is always fun to host (and beat) Minnesota. Those border battles are exactly that....battles. UW won at home 47-42, and at Minnesota 71-63. The Badgers also swept Purdue for the first time since 1984.....yes 1984. That was a big deal since the Badgers have seldom won in West Lafayette.
Wednesday February 23, 2011 6:43
6:44
The Michigan State games were both close. First in East Lansing without Lin Zastrow, and then an overtime loss at the Kohl Center. Two good teams slugging it out. MSU has proved it is the team to beat in the Big Ten.
Wednesday February 23, 2011 6:44
6:47
Expect the Badgers to finish this season strong, despite their injuries. They are playing together as a team, and that is the critical factor. I shall enjoy watching this year's Big Ten Tournament from my armchair in front of the fire, and cheering for our Badgers. It has been a great season....hope they can continue it into the NCAA's. They deserve it.

Wisconsin led by 14, 19-5 at the 12:56 mark. Was on fire from outside early with Jade Davis hitting two 3 ptrs and Zastrow and Covington working the inside. Since the IU has started rebounding and starting hitting jumpers. Elam has hit from outside and in the lane. Leading scorer Jori Davis is 0-8 from the floor, so Jade is doing a good job defensively on her. Davis had to sit with two fouls, otherwise no player from either team has more than 1.
