Wisconsin (11-9, 6-2) pulled away in the second half to defeat Illinois (7-13, 2-5) 60-47 at the Kohl Center and remain alone in second place in the Big Ten with a 6-2 record. Follow the gameday blog for all the details.

I am the former athletic communications contact for women's basketball, and although now three years removed, still enjoy following the players. These seniors were freshmen in my last year of covering the team and it has been fun to see their progress.

We have some split attention in the State of Wisconsin today as our Packers take on the Bears in the NFC Championship at Soldier Field in Chicago. The Packers are leading shortly after the half, 14-0. Feel free to send a few scores this way if the game is not over when the women's game begins.

Ironically, the Badger men played at Northwestern this morning, and now we host another team from the Bears' home state. The Badger men took care of business defeating the Wildcats 78-46 and Josh Gasser had the program's first triple double. The women's program has also never had a triple double but I wondered who would be the most likely candidate on this year's team to do it. So I put it in a poll for your opinion.

Tonight's game is the last in the slate of Big Ten games today. Winners are: Penn State 82 at Indiana 69; Michigan 57 hosted Purdue 45; Michigan State 66 at Minnesota 54. Michigan State remains atop the standings with one loss at 6-1. Currently three teams are tied for second with 5-2 records including the Badgers.

The Badgers are coming off a huge come-from-behind win at MInnesota Thursday in Williams Arena. The Gophers, who are winless in the Big Ten with an 0-7 record, were leading by 16 points when Wisconsin outscored Minnesota 41-19 in the second half for the 71-63 win.

The Badgers are 10-9 on the year but have won eight of their last 10 games. UW suffered through a seven game losing streak early in the non-conference season, but has come on strong in the Big Ten with its 5-2 mark, good for a tie for second place. Today is the halfway point of the conference season. The Badgers have four home games remaining after today.

Part of the success in the last 10 games has been because UW has controlled the ball better and reduced its turnovers. In the last nine games, Wisconsin has averaged 13.3 TOs per game. Wisconsin leads the conference in turnover margin at plus 3.0. In the league UW averages 12.7 TOs to opponents 15.7 turnovers per game.

Another huge part of the success is the emergence of 6-4 senior forward Lin Zastrow. In three of her last four games, Zastrow has scored and tied her career-high of 21 points. She also had double-doubles in two of those games, and is one of the best passers on the team. She is also my candidate for most likely to record a triple double.

Wisconsin's leading scorer is 5-7 senior Alyssa Karel with 16.3 points per game. She has scored in double figures in 10 -straight games leading the Badgers to an 8-2 record over that stretch.

WIth the Packer game going on, the attendance today is expected to be the lowest of the year. This was definitely a great day to be a Badger couch potato. The UW men played at 11:30 a.m. this morning on the Big Ten Network. Now the Pack is playing, and soon the UW women will be on BTN at 5 p.m. With so few people expected, the security officials are encouraging people with non-reserved tickets to sit on the bench side of the court so it will look better for TV.
