I am the former athletic communications contact for women's basketball, and although now three years removed, still enjoy following the players. This senior class were freshmen in my last year of covering the team and it has been fun to see their progress.

Today's game is part of the annual Border Battle, an all-sport competition between the athletic programs at Minnesota and Wisconsin. In its seventh year, the Border Battle is currently tied at 3-3. In 2010-11, the Badgers lead the Battle 185-95. Twenty points will be awarded to the champion of today's game. After losing its first Big Ten game of the season at No. 11 Michigan State on Thursday, the Badgers dropped into a four-way tie for second at 2-1. Michigan State is the only undefeated team in conference play at 2-0 while Penn State, Michigan, Indiana and Wisconsin are all 2-1.

The Badgers lost to the Spartans on Thursday playing without senior Lin Zastrow, who suffered a head injury in practice on Tuesday. Wisconsin is 0-4 when Zastrow does not play. The Badgers average just 50 points and 32 rebounds without the 6-4 post compared to 62.1 points and 34.6 rebounds per game with her. LIN IS DRESSED AND WARMING UP TODAY.

In Big Ten games, Wisconsin leads the league in 3-point percentage. The Badgers are shooting 48.8 percent (21-of-43) from behind the arc through three games. UW averages 7.0 treys made per game, which ranks third.

Senior Tara Steinbauer has played in 101 consecutive games, which ranks her eighth on the UW career list. Dating back to her freshman season, the 6-1 post has not missed a game since December of 2007. She is averaging a career-best 11.1 points per game this season, third best on the team.

Today's game will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network. Wisconsin's next game Thursday, Jan. 13 will also be live on BTN when UW hosts Purdue at 7:30 p.m. CT in the Kohl Center. The Badgers beat Purdue in the Big Ten opener Dec. 30, 68-66. It was Wisconsin's first win in West Lafayette since 1984.

In games so far today, Michigan State remains undefeated at 3-0 in the Big Ten with a 63-56 win over MIchigan in Ann Arbor. They are distinguishing themselves as the team to beat in the conference. Six-time defending champion Ohio State fell Saturday at Iowa, 89-76. It was the Buckeye's second conference loss.

Minnesota is 0-3 in the Big Ten and 8-8 overall. The Gophers lost two at home including an 80-79 overtime loss to Indiana. Illinois also topped the gophers 64-50, and Iowa came away with a win on the road, 63-57. Sophomore Leah Cotton leads the team with 15.3 points per game.
