In the holiday spirit, UWBadgers.com caught up with freshman Kelly Jaminski (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.), and juniors Brooke Ammerman (River Vale, N.J.) and Nikki Kaasa (St. Cloud, Minn.) of the Badger women's hockey team to find out how the team celebrates the holiday season.
What are your holiday plans this year?
Kelly Jaminski: I'm going to spend the holidays with my family, which includes my two brothers and my mom. We'll probably go to my uncle's house for Christmas.
Brooke Ammerman: Brittany and I will be spending the holidays in New Jersey with both sides of our family.
Nikki Kaasa: I plan to go home for five days. We are back for practice on Dec. 26, so I'm going to be with my family as much as I can.
Does your family have any holiday traditions?
Jaminski: We usually just go to my uncle's house and kick back and eat, watch a movie. We don't really have that many traditions.
Ammerman: Well, Christmas Eve is always at our parents' house, and Christmas Day we either stay at our house and my dad's family comes over or we go to my aunt's house.
Kaasa: My brother and I always go to a movie on Christmas Day at some point. We'll see whatever good movie is playing at the time. That's really the only tradition we have.
What is your favorite part about this time of year?
Jaminski: I love being with my family and having family bonding time, watching movies, being in a warm house. The food is always good.
Ammerman: My favorite part is Christmas Eve when my mom's entire family comes over to our house and we just kick it, have a good time.
Kaasa: Just spending time with my family. I don't get to see my little two-year-old niece very often, so I play with her a lot and then my family just got a puppy so I'll spend a lot of time with her, too.
What are you asking Santa for this year?
Jaminski: My family is pretty low key. We just enjoy spending time together, so I'm not really asking for anything. I guess, the essentials, socks, that's about it for me.
Ammerman: I'm hoping to get "Michael Jackson the Experience" on Wii. Alex Rigsby and my sister are staying over at our apartment with Geena Prough, Brianna Decker and I. We'll have some time to kill when we're not at the rink over winter break, so I hope Santa brings that.
Kaasa: One, I want Paul to get me new sticks. That would be awesome! I also am hoping that my parents will pay for my flight out to Seattle and Portland for my spring trip this year.
