Hello everyone and welcome courtside today's big in-state women's basketball rivalry featuring the Badgers of UW-Madison (3-7) and the Panthers of UW-Milwaukee (3-5). The game will tip at 1 p.m. CT, and will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network. Or you can follow along on this interactive live blog or through gametracker.

I am Tam Flarup and I will serve as your blog host this season for all home events. I am the former athletic communications contact for women's basketball, and although now three years removed, still enjoy following the players. This senior class were freshmen in my last year of covering the team and it has been fun to see their progress.

This is the third Division I school from Wisconsin the Badgers have faced. UW lost earlier at Green Bay 69-43, and lost at home to Marquette, 66-52. It is the first in-state contest for Milwaukee. The Badgers stopped a seven game win streak last Thursday defeating Drake on its home floor, 60-49.

This is the next to the last game before the break for finals and the holidays. The Badgers wrap up the non-conference season on Wednesday when they travel to Wyoming (5-2). Game time is 8 p.m. CT from Arena Auditorium in Laramie, Wyo. Wisconsin will open the Big Ten Conference season Dec. 30 at Purdue and will host Penn State on Jan. 2.
Sunday December 12, 2010 11:48
11:50
The Badgers' 3-7 record reflects the difficulty in its non-conference schedule. Wisconsin has one of the toughest schedules in the nation according to several national ranking websites. UW ranks ninth for strength of schedule by RPIRatings.com while RealTimeRPI.com has the Badgers at 16th.
Wisconsin's seven-game losing stretch was against teams that competed in the post-season in 2010. Those seven opponents have a combined record of 50-9, including three undefeated teams in No. 5 Duke, No. 23 Green Bay and Oklahoma State.
Sunday December 12, 2010 11:50
11:52
Defense is still No. 1 for the Badgers. Wisconsin leads the Big Ten in 3-point field goal defense at 27 percent. The Badgers also rank third in scoring defense, giving up 57.9 points per game. UW is also third in field goal defense (35.8), and fifth in rebounding defense (36.1).

Milwaukee had its third-straight loss Dec. at No. 15 Michigan State, 55-48. They are led by Lindsay Lauer who averages 17.4 points per game. She was a high school teammate of Wisconsin's Alyssa Karel at Cretin-Durham in Roseville, Minn.

Panther Coach Sandy Botham is a Madison, Wis., native and graduate of West High School. She usually has a loud and plentiful contingent of family and friends who attend this game. However, the attendance will be down today due to blizzard conditions outside. Madison had a snowfall of around 5 inches last night, and now the winds are whipping up to 30 miles per hour and the temperatures are falling. Between the weather and the Packers playing at noon, I think people will think twice about venturing out. So sit back, read the blog and watch the game on the Big Ten Network with Stephanie White and Dan Kelly.

The Badger men had a big win over Marquette in Milwaukee yesterday, and last Thursday beat Milwaukee at the Kohl Center. During a time out of the men's contest, the Chancellors of Madison and Milwaukee had a free throw contest. Madison Chancellor Biddy Martin won the friendly challenge 12-6 over Milwaukee Interim Chancellor Michael Lovell. Check out their photo below.

I think what has been demonstrated so far is we need to stay healthy. We have three primary scorers, with some surprise performances by others. If one of those primary scorers is out, we struggle. As for the Big Ten, every game is difficult. There are no gimmes, but the strong non-conference schedule has prepared them.
