I am Tam Flarup and I will serve as your blog host this season for all home events. I am the former athletic communications contact for women's basketball, and although now three years removed, still enjoy following the players. This senior class were freshmen in my last year of covering the team and it has been fun to see their progress.

We will be having a special guest here today. UW-Madison Chancellor Carolyn "Biddy" Martin will be a guest blogger on press row. So get your questions ready for the Chancellor. Martin is a 1973 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of William & Mary. She played basketball one season for the Tribe, averaging 8.9 points per game in a 12-game season in 1972-73. Martin scored a game-high 17 points vs. Virginia Commonwealth.

The Wisconsin women's basketball team won its regular-season opener at Saint Louis Friday night, 60-32. Senior Lin Zastrow finished with 14 points and a game-high four assists, while senior Tara Steinbauer had her eighth career double-double with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

Back to basketball: today the Badgers will be without the services of leading scorer Alyssa Karel who turned up lame right before the half in the first exhibition on Nov. 4. The diagnosis is a sprained left kjnee and she is expected to miss several games including the season opener next Friday at St. Louis and today's game. She is in street clothes but off crutches today.

Making UW even thinner at guard is sophomore transfer Tiera Stephen who is out with a concussion. With the graduation of four-year starter Rae Lin D'Alie the point guard position was a question mark this season. The injury situation is demanding point guard be played by committee. With Karel out, Taylor Wurtz, Morgan Paige and senior Emily Neal will all be counted on today to play the point.

This is kind of an unusual time since two major players are sitting with injuries. This has provided more PT for quite a few players we may not have seen as much of. Jade Davis definitely looks like she will be a regular, and I am impressed with Mo Paige although she will probably come off the bench when Karel and Stephen are healthy.
