I am Tam Flarup and I will serve as your blog host this season for all home events. I am the former athletic communications contact for women's basketball, and although now three years removed, still enjoy following the players. This senior class were freshmen in my last year of covering the team and it has been fun to see their progress.

The Badgers are 2-1 and suffered their first defeat 69-43 Thursday at Green Bay. Playing without point guard Alyssa Karel, and with limited time from point guard Tiera Stephen, the Badgers committed 24 turnovers and were dominated by the Phoenix. Karel has missed three games and one exhibition since injuring her knee in the first exhibition Nov. 4. She dressed and popping them from the top of the key today, so she will be a welcome addition back.

The Badgers won their first two games winning on the road at St. Louis 60-32, and beating a feisty William and Mary team in the home opener last Sunday, 65-38. Tara Steinbauer led the Badgers with a double-double in both games. Despite the bad loss at Green Bay, their was a bright spot with the play of 6-4 senior forward Lin Zastrow who went 9-of-9 from the field and had 18 points and eight rebounds. It would be great to have that type of production out of her on a consistent basis.

Kansas is the first of two Big 12 opponents the Badgers will face this season. UW travels to Oklahoma State Dec. 5. Wisconsin is the only Big Ten school playing two Big 12 opponents.

The KU team is stretching in front of me and their road uniforms are REALLY Bright Blue! I spent a little time in Lawrence in a previous life and had an office in Phog Allen Fieldhouse where the team plays its games. Quite an historic building with great tradition. The building is located on Naismith Drive, yes that Naismith. The inventor of basketball founded the Kansas basketball program (1898-1907) and served as a professor and later athletic director in Lawrence.

Kansas is 2-0 on the season and this is their first road game. They beat South Dakota 73-40 and Texas A & M Corpus Christi 85-44. The Jayhawks were picked to finish sixth in their league in the pre-season poll and finished last season with a 17-16 mark and third round WNIT appearance.

Alyssa Karel was just introduced to a huge ovation. The fans have really missed watching Alyssa play and the team has also missed her contributions. She was a point guard in high school but switched to two-guard the past three years. She is now back at the point.

Badgers' Mo Paige ties it up at 7 with a free throw and bucket. Both teams play similar styles. Alyssa dribbles in and pops in from the lane. And now she has a steal. Boy, have we missed her!

For the Jayhawk fan, a former KU player lives in the Madison area and is here tonight. Angie Halblieb-Murphy is the high school basketball coach at Verona and was a 1998 KU graduate.

Sunday November 21, 2010 5:17

Taylor Wurtz is making her first appearance tonight. She played point while Karel was injured. Zastrow just picks up her second foul. That isn't good.

Zastrow out with that second foul and Steinbauer in without much rest.
Sunday November 21, 2010 5:19

Sunday November 21, 2010 5:20
5:21
Doesn't take Taylor long to find the basket. But KU is matching us basket for basket. Need a defensive stand.

how is taylor wurtz adjusting to more playing time
Sunday November 21, 2010 5:22 Nelly

Taylor started the 3 games Alyssa Karel was injured. She did a great job handling the ball until they met Green Bay's pressure. But she is really a two-guard, so it is not her natural position. Stone said it was point guard by committee with Karel out, but it really was on Wurtz and she handled it well.

Sunday November 21, 2010 5:23
5:26
The three-ball is just not going down for the Badgers. UW is 0-6 tonight and was 2-10 at Green Bay. Steinbauer is at the line and makes one of two. UW 14, KU 13 (10:42)
Sunday November 21, 2010 5:26

KU has a nice center in 6-3 Carolyn Davis. She was preseason All-Big 12 honorable mention and leads the team with 10 points. Another 6-2 player for KU, Aishah Sutherland has 9 rebounds. They match our height underneath.
