Volleyball vs. Ohio State Gameday Blog

MADISON, Wis. - Please join Diane Nordstrom of the Wisconsin Athletic Communications Office as she chronicles all the action from tonight's match between Wisconsin (11-0 overall, 0-0 Big Ten) and Ohio State (12-1, 0-0) with the live Gameday Blog. Both teams open the Big Ten season tonight as league play began earlier this week when Purdue edged Indiana.

The blog is interactive, so be sure to chime in with comments and questions and vote in the polls. The live blog will start at 6:30 p.m. (CT).

Tonight's match will be streamed live on BigTenNetwork.com. You can also listen to the match in the Madison area on The Mic 92.1 (WXXM-FM) with Jon Arias.

Wisconsin is off to its best start ever at 11-0 and has equaled its win total from 2009. The Badgers are the only Big Ten team still undefeated and one of nine nationally still undefeated.

Tonight is the 20th-annual Steve Lowe Night in honor of the former UW head coach. Special Wisconsin Volleyball wristbands are being given out tonight and the Steve Lowe Endowed Scholarship will be presented to senior Allison Wack tonight before the match by Lowe's sons Ian and Jeff.

The Buckeyes are also off to a strong start with a 12-1 record so far this season, with their only loss coming earlier this month against Kentucky. OSU is currently ranked No. 25 going into the Big Ten season.

Ohio State has 15 digs compared to 11 for Wisconsin. The Badgers have a 2-1 edge in digs. A key to that set was the Buckeyes serving. They really kept Wisconsin out of its offense and had three aces. Wisconsin didn't have any aces, something they have been doing well of late.

Digs are 28-28 with Gabrielsen leading the Badgers with 9. Wisconsin has five blocks while Ohio State has 3. A reporter asked me if these teams are among the worst int he Big Ten in blocking but Ohio State came in averaging 3.24 blocks per set. The Badgers were averaging 2.38 blocks per set.

Though I may not be specific enough, I think its been mental errors. There have been times that the Badgers should have gotten balls due to miscommunication or not playing as a team. You have to remember that we are very young and that will come as the season goes along.
