UW men's tennis assistant coach Evan Austin recently accepted the head coaching job at Drake University.
Austin spent four seasons with the Badgers, helping head coach Greg Van Emburgh compile a 71-41 overall record during that span. Austin, a native of Naples, Fla., played for Van Emburgh at Kentucky and served a pivotal role in the Badgers' four straight NCAA appearances.
"I am really excited for Evan and his new opportunity as a head coach," Van Emburgh said. "Selfishly, I would like to keep him around longer, but most every assistant is looking to eventually be a head coach.
"I am grateful for the time and dedication Evan spent working with me to make the men's tennis program successful here at Wisconsin. We will miss him and wish him all the best in his new position at Drake."
Austin succeeds Jimmy Borendame as head coach of the Bulldogs' men's tennis squad, inheriting six letterwinners from Drake's 15-9 2009 team. The Bulldogs went 3-2 in Missouri Valley Conference play last season.
