The 2010 USA Hockey Women's National Festival took place Aug. 13-21 in Lake Placid, N.Y. Members of the 22-player National Festival team roster included UW senior Meghan Duggan and former Badgers Jessie Vetter, Molly Engstrom, Erika Lawler and Jinelle Zaugg-Siergiej. The team, tabbed as Team Red, trained both on and off the ice at the Olympic Center and Olympic Training Center.
The 2010 U.S. Women's Under-22 Select Team, including UW juniors Hilary Knight and Brooke Ammerman and sophomore Brianna Decker, and the 2010 U.S. Women's Under-18 Select Team also participated in the Festival.
In addition to participating in the national festival, the U.S. U-22 team squared off with the Canadian National Women's Under-22 Team for a three-game series last week. Canada won all three games, held Aug. 18, 19 and 21 at the MasterCard Centre in Toronto. Badgers Stefanie McKeough and Brittany Haverstock skated for Canada in the event.
The Badgers contributed offense in the series as Knight scored two unassisted goals and Decker added one tally for the U.S. in game two. McKeough picked up two assists for Canada in the third game.
Finally, the Molson Canadian World Hockey Summit runs today through Thursday in Toronto. The event is designed to dissect the current state of hockey and collaboratively identify and address key concerns and issues facing the game today.
