Former Badger Scott Lorenz has successfully made the step to the next level after completing his soccer career with Wisconsin, earning a place on the NSC Minnesota Stars, a professional soccer team competing in the 12-team USSF Division 2 Pro League in 2010.
Lorenz, who played with UW from 2006-09, has now played in six games with three starts for Minnesota. He made his debut with the NSC Stars on May 22 in the team's 1-0 loss to the Miami FC Blues, when he saw 20 minutes of playing time.
Lorenz played as a defender, midfielder and forward during his career with the Badgers. He is listed as a midfielder on the Stars' roster but has appeared in the backfield as well.
Most recently, Lorenz scored the lone goal in Minnesota's 1-0 win over Tampa Bay, tallying his first professional goal in the 27th minute. Although it went in the books as an own goal for Tampa Bay, Lorenz set up the play. The video of the play is linked below.
In its next contest, Minnesota (7-9-2) hosts AC St. Louis at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn., on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
