My name is Tam Flarup and I am the home blogger for the Badgers. I covered the team and traveled with them for over 30 years, but now enjoy attending the home games in addition to my usual athletic dept. duties and director of the Web site, uwbadgers.com.

I usually run a photo of me blogging courtside at this time, so people can get a glimpse of the person they will correspond with should they make comments. However, today I am showing you a proud moment from last week's Culver's Camp Randall Hockey Classic when the Stanley Cup visited. Now that's a cool trophy!

Today starts a month-long celebration of breast cancer awareness signified by coaches and players wearing the color pink. Sponsored by the Women's Basketball Coach Association, schools participate in different ways by wearing pink uniforms and auctioning them for cancer research, or by sponsoring different promotions within their communities to raise awareness of breast cancer. Today the UW coaches will be appearing in pink polo shirts. See Ty Margenthaler and Oties Epps in their outfits.

The regular season has only five games remaining. The Badgers play three of their last five games at home. Wisconsin hosts Indiana, No. 8 Ohio State and Iowa while traveling on the road at Penn State and Michigan. Following last Sunday's two-point loss at Purdue, Wisconsin fell into a tie for third place in the Big Ten and after today's games UW is alone in fourth place. Only three games separate second through eighth place in the league standings.

Every game is so important to determine seeding for the Big Ten Tournament March 4-7 at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The top five teams in the regular season standings receive a first-round bye.

This is a noteworthy day beyond Valentine's Day and the Pink Day celebration. It is freshman Jamie Russell's birthday, AND when senior Rae Lin D'Alie takes the court, she will become the school record holder in most games played (and concecutive games played) and games started. The 5-3 guard will play in her 125th straight game and start her 124th game.
Sunday February 14, 2010 5:16
5:20
That is quite a noteworthy record because it means Rae Lin is the Ironwoman of Wisconsin. She passes the previous Ironwomen, Tamara Moore (1998-2002) and LaTonya Sims (1997-2001), who played in every game possible in their careers, 124. Rae Lin's starts record breaks Jolene Anderson's 123 starts.
Sunday February 14, 2010 5:20
5:22
The Badgers have only one game this week. They were off on their bye last Thursday. UW is coming off a tough 58-56 loss at Purdue, a place they have not won since 1984. But they were oh so close leading the entire game before a buzzer beater by the Boilers gave them their only lead and the win.
Sunday February 14, 2010 5:22
5:25
Wisconsin has won seven Big Ten games this season, surpassing its Big Ten win total of 2008-09. Seven conference wins ties for second most for the Badgers under Stone. The Badgers' 17 wins this season is the third-most victories for the UW under Coach Lisa Stone.
Sunday February 14, 2010 5:25
5:28
The Badgers are 8-3 at home this season and have been effective on the road with a 7-4 mark (2-0 neutral). The Badgers loss at Purdue ended their streak of three-straight road victories. UW is 4-2 at home in conference play.
Sunday February 14, 2010 5:28
5:29
The Badgers are looking to sweep Indiana for the first time in program history after downing the Hoosiers 55-47 in Bloomington on Jan. 28. That was only the third win ever at Assembly Hall.

A few questions... How many wins do you think it will take for the Badgers to get to the NCAA tournament? A win today would be huge for separation with the others in the conference standings. Because they have not been here before, does the team seem tight as a result of being in the NCAA tournament chase heading into what is an important game on many levels?
Sunday February 14, 2010 5:39 Jo Jo
5:41
thanks for the question. Teams have been invited with 16 wins depending on the RPI and strength of schedule. But 20 wins is a gold standard, and if one of those wins was over a top-10 team like Ohio State who we meet next Thursday, that would I think really cement an NCAA bid. A winning conference record is also very important. This team has really been good at not looking too far ahead and just focusing on the next game. If they continue doing that, they should be good.

After today's games OSU clinched its sixth straight conference title with a 64-59 win over Minnesota. Purdue is second at 9-6 with its 63-59 win over Penn State. Michigan State is 8-6 and alone in third with its 68-55 win over Northwestern. UW is fourth at 7-6 ahead of Iowa at 7-7, Penn State at 7-8 and Indiana at 6-7.

Six minutes to the national anthem and intros. Jamie Braun is a senior on IU's team from Marshfield, WIs. She has usually brought quite a fan base in the past and I see the seats behind the IU team are nicely filled.

Badgers have just taken the floor. Both the coaching staffs greeted one another. IU is sponsored by adidas, too, so all eight of the coaches (four on each bench) identically pink clad. 30 seconds to the final horn.

Arena has gone dark for the introductions. Always an exciting time. Our game is late tonight with a 6 p.m. start. We usually play 1:30 Sunday games. Hope that doesn't hurt the crowd too much. The UW women's hockey team played this morning following the UW men last night. So it's been a conversion weekend around here from ice to bball floor.
