Badgers continue to climb rankings

Thanks to a close loss at No. 10 Michigan State and a win over previously-unbeaten No. 4 Purdue last week, the Badgers continue their ascent up the college basketball rankings.

According the latest polls released Monday, Wisconsin moved up to No. 13 in this week's AP top 25 and No. 16 in the ESPN/USA Today poll. The Badgers are also checking in at No. 13 in the latest NCAA RPI rankings and No. 12 in the Sagarin ratings.

The Badgers' 13-3 overall record along might be deserving of the high ranking, but their resume against the other elite teams certainly is. Wisconsin is 4-1 vs. ranked teams this season, toppling Purdue (#4), Duke (#6), Ohio State (#15) and Maryland (#21). Those four wins against AP top-25 teams are the most of any team in the nation. Four schools have three top-25 wins: Cincinnati, Duke, Georgetown and Syracuse.

Wisconsin is also one of just four teams (along with Purdue, Syracuse and Texas) to have beaten two top-10 teams this season. UW has faced 27 top-25 teams since 2007-08, second-most in all of college basketball. Only Ohio State (30) has played more ranked foes. The Badgers are 13-14 in those contests.
