The Badgers scored a season-high 78 points, knocking off the No. 13 Terps in overtime at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee. Kirk Penney led UW with 18 points, including four 3-pointers. Head coach Dick Bennett would announce his retirement the next day.

Badgers built a 12-point halftime lead and then extended it to a 20-point second-half margin, before suffering a last-second defeat. The loss would put the Badgers at 1-4 in Bo Ryan's first season at Wisconsin, but they would rebound to win the Big Ten championship.
