Welcome back to the Lahaina Civic Center, a few 100 yards from the beach here in Maui. We're approaching tip off for this semifinal match-up at the Maui Invitational. After last night's marathon win over Arizona, it seems like we never left this gym.

But I'm excited to be back for tonight's semifinal match-up between the Badgers and the Gonzaga Bulldogs. The 8:30 p.m. (central) time slot is a lot more tolerable back on the mainland and the 4:30 p.m. (local) time isn't bad either.

Cincy and Maryland are putting the final touches on their game right before the Wisconsin game. The Bearcats are clinging to a 10-point lead right now with 2:01 left to play and looking to secure a spot in tomorrow night's championship game.

One interesting scheduling note is why the tournament schedule was set up the way it was. Gonzaga played the first game of the day yesterday and Wisconsin played in the nightcap.

Thus, the Bulldogs had all day to rest and prepare for two opponents, while UW didn't get back to the hotel until after 10 p.m. local time. Not sure why that is, but what are you going to do.

Last night after the game, UW strength and conditioning coach Scott Hettenbach had the players go straight from the bus to one of the hotel pools when we got back.

Hettenbach wanted to cool their legs down and help them loosen up after a physically taxing game. That must have been quite a sight to see the Badgers march to the pool and jump in wearing just their compression shorts.

From what I've seen , UW has the biggest fan base here on the island, but I've heard Gonzaga has a pretty big throng as well. That means that just like last night, this one promises to be loud and hostile.

It's official... Cincinnati beat Maryland advanced to the championship game tomorrow. The Bearcats will take on the winner of tonight's primetime main event of Wisconsin and Gonzaga.

A few notes about Gonzaga...

1.) They are a young team, but led by a senior. Matt Bouldin is a preseason All-American candidate who is averaging 18.3 ppg, 4.8 rpg and 4.0 apg. After that, the roster sports 9 freshman and three sophomores.

2.) 6-5 guard Stephen Gray scored 27 in the Zags first game of the tourney vs. Colorado.

3.) Gonzaga has a few big men that will be a handle. Redshirt sophomore Robert Sacre is a 7-footer who is averaging almost 15 points a night and has nice skill around the basket. The other giant is 7-goot-5 senior Will Foster. 7-FOOT-5!?! Wow. If Keaton Nankivil guards him he'll be giving up 9 inches!

Arizona shot 37 free throws vs. UW last night and Gonzaga has a propensity to get the line as well. In three of their first four games, the Bulldogs have attempted at least 34 free throws. That would spell trouble for Bucky tonight.

The transition defense will certainly be addressed at halftime. Coach Ryan preaches about getting back and protecting the rim at all costs. Some of the transition is coming off turnovers or bad shots that leave UW out of position. A few though are just getting beat.

The Zags have a tough combo of size and speed... so much for a rebuilding year at Gonzaga. They looked impressive to me at Michigan State two weeks ago and they are doing it again tonight.
