Heading to Chicago with J-Bo and Pop

Big Ten Basketball Media Day is upon us... Chicago here we come. Coach Ryan drove down to Chicago earlier today, and I'll wait behind to take our players. We are taking our two senior captains (Jason Bohannon and Trevon Hughes) down to Media Day this year - no brainer. Jason has class until 3:45 p.m. and we'll leave as soon as he is finished. Can't miss class!

Coach Ryan's schedule begins with a trip to the Big Ten Network studios in downtown Chicago tonight. He and the other 10 Big Ten men's basketball coaches will tape a Coaches Show in the BTN Studios before holding a business meeting with conference officials. The women's coaches will also be in Chicago tonight doing a similar circuit.

After the media and meetings, the coaches will have dinner together somewhere in the city. It would be fun to be a fly on the wall for some of those conversations, wouldn't it? With legendary coaches like Ryan, Tubby Smith, Tom Izzo, John Beilein, Tom Crean, etc... there is going to be some serious story-telling going on.

As for the players, all they have to do tonight is eat. Shouldn't be much of a problem there.

The student athletes' media obligations begin on Thursday morning. Each team sends 2-5 players and many of them will dine together tonight at McCormick & Schmick's. Not too shabby. The basketball training table menu had crab cakes on it last night and J-Bo commented that he had never had crab cakes. Not that the UW's crab cakes were bad, but J-Bo's going to get a little better education in seafood tonight I think.

Not sure which teams will be in town tonight, but here is the list of student athletes scheduled to be at Media Day:

ILLINOIS - Mike Davis, Demetri McCamey, Mike Tisdale
INDIANA - Verdell Jones III, Jeremiah Rivers
IOWA - Devan Bawinkel, Jarryd Cole
