2009 Big Ten Basketball Media Day

Thursday is a busy day for head coach Lisa Stone, Alyssa Karel and Teah Gant. All three are participating in 2009 Big Ten Basketball Media Day in Chicago. We will be providing updates throughout the day on all the events of media day, so be sure to check back periodically.

11:22 a.m.
Only about 30 minutes left to media day. The room is still buzzing with a number of media members...I'd say Michigan State men's head coach Tom Izzo had the most people at his table today. One thing that is interesting to notice with all the media members is the different gear they travel with. There are a number of different kinds of video cameras, tape recorders and other different technologies all being used to capture the story today.

As media day wraps up, Teah and Alyssa will have to do one more TV interview with the Big Ten Network and then it's back to Madison. We're just over a week away from the actual season when UW-Oshkosh comes to town for the one and only exhibition game on Nov. 8 at the Kohl Center. We hope to see you there!

Make sure you log onto UWBadgers.com in the coming week for updates on the team as the season inches closer. We will also be around at the Wisconsin Women's Basketball Alumni Weekend, which is this Friday and Saturday, catching up with former players.

10:34 a.m. Alyssa Karel is now taking a break from the round table media session and doing the "Faces of the Big Ten" commercial shoot. I'm sure you've seen these commercials where they feature a player from different sports under a spotlight and they tell their story. Usually the players selected have an interesting on or off the court story. If you haven't seen the commercials, do a "Faces of the Big Ten" search on YouTube and you can see a number of commercials from last year.

The room is packed right now with media members. Be sure to check out our photo gallery to get a visual of what media day is all about.

9:55 a.m.
It's already been a busy morning for head coach Lisa Stone and players Teah Gant and Alyssa Karel at the 2009 Big Ten Basketball Media Day. Coach Stone had a press conference at 9:10 this morning and was asked questions by reporters from around the Big Ten. Some things she talked about in her session included the Badgers' new offense, the leadership from Gant, who is one of three captains this year, how the new offense will help Karel not shoulder the scoring load like last year and how the team chemistry is at an all-time high heading into the 2009-10 season.

Following the press conference, Coach Stone did a session with the Big Ten Network and now everyone is sitting down for the round table media session. Basically, it's one big room with tons of tables that are filled with coaches, players and media members rotating throughout the tables.

Before we move on, let's back track a bit to last night. We all arrived in Chicago yesterday afternoon and had a bit of down time once we got in. The players took advantage of the car ride and the down time by catching up on their sleep.

Later in the evening, the men's and women's players from around the conference and the sports information directors were treated to a fabulous meal at McCormick & Schmick's. The conference coaches took a trip to downtown Chicago where they spent some time doing interviews at the Big Ten Network studios and were also treated to a dinner.
