|Michael E. Plesha is a professor in the Department of Engineering Physics at the University of Wisconsin, where he has been a faculty member since 1983. His B.S. degree is from the University of Illinois-Chicago, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees are from Northwestern University. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in structural engineering, mechanics of materials, vibrations, and finite element computer methods. His research is in the development of numerical methods for materials and structures having contact, friction, and material interfaces. He is co-author of three books: Applications of Finite Element Analysis (John Wiley, co-authors Cook, Malkus and Witt), Engineering Mechanics: Statics (McGraw-Hill, coauthors Gray and Costanzo), and Engineering Mechanics: Dynamics (McGraw-Hill, coauthors Gray and Costanzo). He has been a member of the Athletic Board since 2005.
