Life Skills Program

The Division of Intercollegiate Athletics dedicates itself to providing athletic opportunities to a wide range of student-athletes and an environment in which all student-athletes can achieve their academic and competitive goals. UW's life skills curriculum, a component for achieving the department mission, provides the necessary support to enable the student-athlete to achieve growth intellectually, physically, socially, emotionally, and ethically.

All student-athletes will progress through UW's Life Skills Curriculum. There are 5 components to the Life Skills Curriculum and each student-athlete is required to complete one designated event or workshop per year.

5 components to the Life Skills Curriculum:

  • Commitment to Personal Development
  • Commitment to Community Service
  • Commitment to Career Development
  • Commitment to Leadership and Involvement
  • Commitment to Diversity

Requirements by year:

  • 1st Year Student-Athletes: Attend the New Student Orientation and enroll in Counseling Psychology 115 - Life Skills Academy
  • 2nd Year Student-Athletes: Attend the Nutrition Workshop
  • 3rd Year Student-Athletes: Attend the Fiscally Fit Workshop (financial workshop)
  • 4th Year Student-Athletes: Enroll in Counseling Psychology 110 - Career Strategies
  • Exhausted Eligibility Student-Athletes: Schedule a one-on-one career advising meeting
